I am totally sold on this 955. No mater what band or frequency I'm on I get good reports. I talked to Russia, Japan, and Columbia Yesterday. I was on 10 meters though.

Fogdog you have made it hard for me to choose my next radio lol , it's between the stryker 955HP or the RCI2970 from Doug's custom cb shop. I know either radio will work well , just can't make my mind up on which one to get lol . Glad you are having a grand time with your new radio, it is nice to be get good audio reports and make contacts as well. Anyway good thread and keep us posted as to how this radio stands up to being in the mobile. God bless and 73's.

Yesterday I was out in the pickup shooting the skip, and the stock Mic on my Stryker has a very short cord, and it always comes out of my hand or falls off my lap. I had enough of this, so I went in my shop and got out my RF limited 2018 Turbo Extreme and hooked it up. Now we all know that Stryker is known for its loud audio, and usually you don't want to hook up a power Mic to these radios. They will squeal real bad if you don't set them up right.

I set all the knobs to the 0 setting, and turned my Mic gain down to a little over half. I heard this guy in Minnesota #145, so I gave him a call. Before he could answer me , someone came back and said that I absolutely crushed everybody out there. I didn't think that Mic would work that good. I had to laugh. I dropped the hammer on them big time.

I continued to use the Mic for another hour, and everybody was saying the same thing. That I was blowing smoke. I had a bunch of people coming back to me until I finally had to shut it down. I think I'm on to something here.

This mic worked real good with my cobra 29 and a 2 pill heater, but it seems to really work with the 955 if you just tone it down a bit. The other thing is that the Mic cord is twice as long as the stock one and doesn't have so much spring back to it.

Just thought I'd give you all an update on what's going on out here.

Awesome FogDog! I'm thinking about getting a duel microphone box for my astatic and a echo/power mic. Bulldog-777 gave me a good idea for that with his review on it. He also had a nice cozy install to. So now the green is trying to escape from my wallet:grin:

Right on Fogdog. Thing happen for a reason. Short mic cords tick me off too. They generally fall into my lap then tumble under my seat or under my feet while driving. Keep on dropping the hammer Fogdog!

I had to put my Cobra 29lxle in my truck, so I'm AM only for now. My 949 was 300 hz off frequency. I handed Tallman my radio to fix, he's also installing a echo board for me. The 4 pill, echo board and my new 636l should hammer like a son of a gun when I get it back.

Man ive really gotta get some more power.

Have you tried shooting skip barefoot?? It's not hard to do with a 4 watt dk. Just keep trying, sometimes I don't turn the amp until I make a contact barefoot, then I hammer down with the amp. Trying it barefoot is a challenging but awesome when you talk across country on a 4 to 12 watt dk

No problem. I don't have a meter that reads over 100 watts, so until then I really won't know.
conditions
today here In Northern California was ok, but there was a lot of QRN. I made quite a few contacts, but that's not unusual. They did say It sounded good, so I'm happy about that, and the fact that It doesn't sound like a splatter box 10-4?

By the way, what time are you on the radio in PST ? I have yet to make contact down there.

Fog dog, go get a radio shack swr meter, they are small, yet work well and are a good fit for the mobile.
And yes I am jealous, love the amp, my brother in law has one, he won't let it go, lol. Good amps IMO, dx'ing shouldn't be too hard with that setup man. Good job!!!!

Fogdog, I see you mentioned having an swr issue, try some different jumper lengths and also get that negative (ground) from the battery to the nearest point that you can ground it. You may have to play with different coax lengths to get the swr readings to calm down. Had the same issue, it takes some time experimenting, but you should be able to get it resolved. Don't let those guys on the other forum disrupt your enjoyment man. You have a nice setup!! God bless and 73's.

Not worried at all. As with all Internet professor's I don't believe everything I read on the Intertubes 10-4? I can weed the crap out.

Take care and 73

Just ordered a fortune's worth of made up Times Microwave LMR-400 UF jumpers for my trucks amp Install. Go big or go home. I don't care If It's overkill or not. I bought It, and that's what's going in. Now I just have to wait for it to arrive, because I did go cheap on the shipping. Gotta save somewhere.

Not going to use the amp, until they arrive. Mil-spec, and used by Nasa, and the Military. Should be good stuff.

It is real good stuff .. Well done FogDog that high quality stuff was going to cost $85 for my antenna but I went for the cheaper RG-213/u it is still thick mean lookin cable but not real quality like your getting.. The waiting game is the hard bit for me ! Cheers...351...

Fogdog

I hope It does the job. Now the waiting like you said.

solarradio351
02-28-2014, 07:45 PM
I will settle for the RG213/u it looks the part so it will perform better than the old standard that I had... I hope it helps with that SWR issue .. :-)

With all the money I've put into setting up again, I will have to settle for what I've got. That 400 looks killer... 351.. :-)
