Go find a 2510 in good condition, send it to Doc in NY. Have him put in the chip switch and "do his thing" to the radio. Then you'll have an amazing 10/11m rig...which by the way will retain its resale value.

All the above mentioned items will came in way under your $500 mark.

If I take the test and get my 10 meter ticket, this is the radio I want.

Those 2510's were some talking ass radios Gordon. Had a tech around my area that knew how to work on them as well, and man they are a mean radio when done properly, my friends dad had one that he would talk around the world with barefoot, with a big stick up 70ft. This is from Florida. Some would say they are a "cheater" radio if you know what I mean. They are getting harder to find, although I have ran across them at ham fest's before.

I bought a Uniden HR2510 with the chip switch for $180.00. The second most expensive radio I have ever bought. Works like a champ. It has way more "Bands". I think the stocker has four bands. A,B,C,D. Mine goes from "A" through "I" and goes from 29.999 MHz down to 24.00 MHz. Flawless performance on all of them. I have been offered 300.00 for it. Hate to say it but I was a little rude to the guy. My most expensive radio can't work as well as the HR2510. The Yaesu FT 890AT has a problem with frequency stability.

Make sure it has the chip switch so you can use it on 11m, and ask what other mods may have been done to it, also ask for a few photos. If it looks good and he can provide photos of it powered up and working, it might be worth it.

This is Doc. He's been around forever and specializes in one thing...2510's and the like (Lincoln etc). Nobody knows these radios like Doc and nobody can get then to sound and perform like Doc. A Doc tuned and cbipswitched 2510 will fetch $300 easily on resale. You may consider contacting him with your questions.

No doubt DOC of New York is a master of the 2510's seen a lot of his work. Not first hand, but many vids. I was just reminiscing about my old tech that no longer does radio work, he has gotten too old. His name was Charlie, handle was snake, he was located in the Daytona beach, fl area, he was a good tech as well. But yes, doc of New York is the man when it comes to the 2510's.

If you can find one the Magnum S45HP is a really nice radio for 10 and 11. Not over complicated and reliable.(As far as I know, I've had mine for 3 months.) It comes from the factory with the RFX75 installed. It has AM, FM, SSB and might even have CW.

I will say this, I have had good luck with my magnum 257hp, made contacts all around the world on 11m ssb. I know they stopped making them as well. I use mine with a magnaforce 350hd and it works well. I always get compliments on how clean it sounds. Just have to keep an eye on the rfx75 unit, they do get warm, I use a brushless pico fan on mine and it stays nice and cool. Anyway, just another radio thought I would throw in the mix.

No worries, that's a good deal, the amp I run is made by xforce as well and it does the job for me. It's only a 2 pill, but I used it to talk with you so it must be working a little lol. Anyway, can't wait to see the new setup and hear from you again. God bless

It's a mobile, magnum 257hp and a magnaforce 350hd. I do have a simple dipole setup at around 25ft along with a uniden PC122xl, but I make most of my contacts in the Mobile.

I have had my 2510 with the chipswitch for years and will never part with it.

Definitely agree an HR-2510 is way to go if can find one, if can't would order from United Kingdom the New President Grant 2 and have a brand new radio that is awesome. Some also like those CRE-8900 or the new Yeti-Com Radio's also but I would rather have that new President Grant 2.

Or even a HR2600. I have the HR2510 and you can't beat it on ssb. Rock steady all day long.

2510's the way to go. Had mine for many moons with the sought after original chipswitch that gives you every channel on 10 and 11 meters. Back then I had the clarifier channel so me and friends of mine could escape others by also turning down the mikes or putting on a stock mike.

Look into the Alinco sr8t. They seem to be good radios from all that I have heard and also the ones I have spoken with that are running one. Great ssb radio, 100 watts, and is an HF radio. This is JMO.
