Made my first ever, good, clear, and confirmed DX contacts today with my Cobra 148 GTL. I spent the day on single side band though. I tried 28 AM and it was just nothing but noise, so I thought I'd have a better chance on side band. Only complaint I got was that one guy told me I sounded about 6dB above freq. (He probably meant khz instead of db, or just didn't have me tuned in, I'm guessing either because my clarifier hasn't been unlocked, or just noise in the air, because 2 or 3 other people told me I sounded real good.
My location: Eastern Kentucky
Call Sign: 10AD707
Location: Chihuahua, Mexico
Channel: Found on 38 LSB, moved to USB for information exchange
DX Number: 789
Location: Northern Idaho
Channel: 38 LSB
DX Number: 777
Location: Saskatchewan, Canada
Channel: 37 LSB
DX Number: 2720
Location: Central Army Air Base, I think he said it was in Kentucky, was kind of noisy
Channel: 37 LSB
I may try a few more later this evening when the skip starts trying to fade out, but since making those contacts even single side band has just gotten really noisy, and people are just keying up with tone generators and covering up some otherwise strong signals coming in.
