Here is my base station, its on top of a hill out in the bush overlooking the sea so there is heeps of skip and no interference from electrical things, I have an old bus seat I sit in.

Early Cobra 2000 GTL, converted to 240 volt and 26 mhz, this has more punch that every other radio I have ever owned.

Home made 5/8 wave Station master, its tide up with rope as it gets super windy here, you can see a slight bend in the radiator this has been fixed but happened in a storm before i added the ropes, I plan to build a 3 element Yagi beam next, I have a Dipole it just needs a reflector and a detector added.

1978 American Electronics radio, clarafire unlocked for 10kc shift, 26 and 27 mhz my favorite radio. I need to get a power supply as I only have a car battery to power this.

I will crank up the AE soon, are you around the radio during the week?

1975 JIL base station, 11 channel, this is from the days when you couldn't have more than 1 watt, this cranks out 6 watts, I use this everyday its hooked up to a 1/2 wave dipole.

a simple dipole 1:1 SWR on my favorite channel, its made from a fuse form the HT power lines with the radiators held in with bolts.

Are they easy to work on ? Older gear is better to play with more room like spread out, wiring diagram's are more straight forward .. what computer type fan has NO noise ? Any ideas ?... cheers

It is easier to work on than the new radios, and I could get the factory service sheets off the net, I think all fans will make a bit of noise, its better than your radio cooking tho

Nice looking setup you have there. A bus seat no doubt makes a good radio bench. Better than a stool for sure! Good luck working on it.

What are you doing with a bendy bus? I haven't seen one of them in a long time, they would all ways sideswipe like 3 cars when they went round a corner.

Summer has been and gone, there is only a very very short time we can shoot skip with our selves because of how narrow the island is, 90% of the skip is from the other islands witch don't speak English, I can hear the guys up in the US but they can't hear me even with 300 watts, I can get over to Australia no problem, but I wonder what hapend to every one here? there anteaters fall off?

Conditions are still good for us here around FL. Made contact with Australia 2 nights ago in the mobile. Also this morning has been good as well, spoke with quite a few fine folks from IL, WV, Canada, OH, MI, and a few other states as well. The local talk has been great as well, early in the morning until about 11am and late at night normally after 10pm. SOHC don't shut it down quite yet, there may be ways to at least get some dx'ing in. I would love to make another contact in New Zealand as it has been an elusive place for me to get to lol. Conditions are constantly changing, don't give up yet!!

Its nealy imposable to get any local contacts on the ground wave 26mhz because of the hills here, my antenna is the best its ever been 1:1 SWR on channel 40 and like I sed befor skip from other parts of NZ is a once in a blue moon thing.

I was going to try making a better antenna for the mobile in the car so I could try DXing from diffrent locations, trying to find ss spring wire for the wip is quit hard

I will put some calls out on sunday some time on ch 6, 10, 35 :)

The Thorn with the Digi scan works relay well, the NLB switch locks and unlocks the clarifier, it has 100s of channels

No no JJD, you want to ship that thing stateside man, mainly East toward Daytona Bch. 32127 to be more specific LOL!! Love those cobra 2k's. My old tech had one and last time I was there he was still using it. And this thing never turned got turned off, I would venture to say it was on for over 10yrs LOL!! And that ain't no BS!! Place looked like a hazardous waste land last time I went there and haven't been back. And he had a bunch of radios I really wanted bad!! Stacks of teaberry stalkers and old realistic Navaho's, a couple of 142's that were a matching set with all extra channels and such. What a waste as he wouldn't part with any of it. Rather let it rot then sell it!! At any rate, he was so damn partial to the 2k that every time I even looked at it he would say that one ain't for sale LOL!! And he was by no means a rich dude. I'm talking trailer was falling apart and should have been declared a hazardous waste area for sure!! He stopped doing radio work about 10yrs ago. I got out of CB for a while due to wrecking my jeep, but after coming back went there and like I said, it was a mess!! He looked like the walking dead. Ol Charlie, aka Snake, around Daytona Beach, FL, he was a damn good tech back in the day. Anyway. Just remembering old times!!
