Spider quad's as you call them are multi-band type antenna's...I've never used one, but they are popular with the HAM's.

Mine is a Lightning L4 quad, I've had up in the air now for a couple of months...Surprised you haven't herd me on 38 or 39 LSB...I've been having pretty good luck picking up the "land down under" in the afternoons around 2:00pm your time.

Listen for "854 Dallas Tx."....

As for whether the quad is better than a Yagi or not...Consider this...The L4 Quad is a full electrical wave length antenna, where most Yagi's are 1/2 wave...Plus, the L4 is a dual polarity antenna, meaning you can switch between Vertical and horizontal polarity's with the use of a switch box...

Lightning is based in California, and ships World-Wide.

(check out "Quad Testimonials"...There's pictures of my antenna...last pictures listed)

Don't bet on it...I was talking to some guy last week in Melbourne that had a Wilson 5000 sitting on top of a air conditioner and I don't think he was running any power either...

Right now my conditions on Australia is not all that good because I'm getting allot of California...Once it gets a little later they start fading out .

Usually get on 28 AM in the afternoons around 5-6-7pm and talk up towards the NE. don't get much out of Indiana, but you may hear me if you can hear Texas.
