IMO I would just spend the extra and get a new one, have them put the toshiba 2879's in it. It will cost more, but you have an amp that you know hasn't been used improperly by someone else. Unless you find a great deal on one that you can test before purchase that is. JMO. God bless.

And as far as brand, xforce, TNT, or Dave made. Dave made amps are great amps as well, pretty much where all the others took the idea from anyway. But the others I listed are good amps as well. Just not a fan of the DEI transistors, although if tuned correctly and not overdriven should perform fine, I just know the toshiba's are more forgiving and IMO a much better transistor.

Make sure you tell them you want Toshibas otherwise it will come with DEIs.

DEI's are not bad really unless your volting up on amp or using for competition. Soon you be no longer able to get Toshiba's, so if really like better buy a few extra at RF Parts because DEI's are going to be the new wave of future with transistors.

10-4. I run DEI. Went with them because of the reasons you stated. I will say that the data sheet says 100wpep and they mean 100wpep.

I would look for one with toshiba transistors and also I would get a straight 4 pill, no driver, this way you will not overdrive the amp with most radios. If you are set on a 1x4, have it setup as 1 2290, driving 4 2879's. Like 856 stated let them know you want toshiba transistors, that is unless you are good with the DEI transistors. JMO. God bless

What this guy said. Don't believe builders Web sites. You will get about 300 -500 out of a 1×4 if you want it to last.

Maybe at 20 volts. I believe a 2879 is rated @ 100w peak @ 12 volts

I wouldn't run a 2x4 no way no how. You will be over driving the 4 pill section with a 2 pill driver. Keep it a 1x4 or straight 4 pill or move up to a 6 or 8 pill for 1kw. This is will require some thought though as the amp draw will be much more than with a 4 pill. JMO. God bless.

No again do the Math and match the pills. You would have to highly volt up in order to get 1 Kw. How many volts are you going to run? and what type of radio, a single final or dual final radio? Probably would need close to an 8 pill to see close to 1 Kw.

Again depending on volts and single or dual final radio? Probably would get like a Texas Star Sweet Sixteen which is a 2x8 in order for you to be happy.

PS - And will be able to sound good on SSB. There are competition amps and regular amp for everyday use which I believe you need. Those high numbers in watts are competition amps that are meant for keydown and running at high volts for short periods of time. Do a little more research on web and will understand.

And some good coax and power and ground cable. Also keep in mind the amp draw for an amp that size. You will most likely need to upgrade your alternator and your battery system as well as ensuring that your vehicle is bonded well!! With more power comes more issues that may or can arise. A properly tuned 4 pill mobile will talk around the world without an issue on both AM and SSB, conditions permitting . JMO. If I see 400-600 watts with a good 4 pill and a good radio driving it, I should have no issue with getting out. Like NY714 is saying, a 2x8 or similar is where you will need to be in order to get the watts you want and still be clean IMO. God bless
