You might be better off using a cobra 148 rather than a cobra 29. Read up on direct injection and what it takes. For all the time you'll spend trying to get it right you can get a good mic and have the radio setup the right way by a good tech. But that is JMO. A good mic and a properly setup radio can sound really good. But even setting up a stock radio takes time and patience. You need to find the right mic for your voice. Look into some of the higher quality mics like the HEIL mics, or even a good older shure mic can work well. It's all about how you set it up.
There are other forums as well that discuss this very subject as well. Not saying that this is a bad place at all. Some very very knowledgeable gents here that can guide you through doing direct injection, but even a lot of them will tell you need a lot of patience and will have to either get a foot pedal or some type of switch for keying the radio or use the hand mic to key the radio. Along with all the parts needed. I am sure you already know all this. But it doesn't hurt to bring it up anyways. Someone that is very knowledgeable about direct injection just posted on another forum about how the cobra 29 is too narrow banded to be a good radio for doing the mod. Like I said, most of these guys use cobra 148's and yes even the new ones work. I won't mention the other forums here but if you do a Google search about the subject you'll find lots of info about this subject. If you are just bored and want to do this mod then have at it. There are some companies that are making boards that will fit inside your radio or you can build a small project box for them. Motor Mouth has a new version of one out that is pretty small and can run off 12vdc instead of having to use higher voltages and such. Here are some pics of the new board he has and some others. Here are a couple places that you can buy the boards and just install them. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161126/fb76be1219f53c9e2e747f63b246996c.pnghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161126/685abcd05d1e0f4923eb8bf78b10354e.pnghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161126/0aa1312912c2d7e8b274d4c6d79e65db.pnghttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161126/a3913e15203f87cdb1b6c88429cacc6a.png

Don't know if any of what I said will help or not, but I tried. This forum has been kind of slow. But there are other forums that explain what you want to know as well. Or you can wait it out and possibly get an answer here. Again, hope some of this helps. Have a good day.
