New to forum, and CB’s . I dabbled some years ago with a mobile, but never a base. Here is my greenhorn question: i have a 30x40 metal shop building i want to mount my A99 to roof peak, prefferably using a metal pipe, from ground to as far past peak as i can, then attach A99 to it. My plan is the roof peak for stability as high as possible. Now, should some type ground be hooked up ? What keeps lightning from travelling coax to my radio ? Its a used cobra 29ltd. I have a power supply. Is there some type lightning arrestor! Does calmping antenna to pole take care of this ? I hear about ground planes, would metal roof serve as that ? Thanks in advance for any advice

Ground the pole, with a copper grounding rod. Better safe than sorry.

So, just clamp suport pole to ground rod ? What about antenna itself?

its a copper wire antenna that's hidden inside a fiberglass housing . i'm not a fan but many folks love them . everything isn't for everybody .

You can also help mitigate lightning ingress to your equipment by grounding the coax right outside the house.

I carefully cut away about a 1/2" of the coax casing covering the braid, just before it enters the house, and attached & soldered a ground strap from it to my ground rod.

Just be careful not to get it too hot and melt the dielectric insulation between the coax braid and center conductor.

I resealed mine by applying "Liquid Electrical Tape" in a small 4oz metal can.
