Anybody know what actual GP surface area is needed to turn mobile antenna into base antenna that will function properly/well? Just trying to save some $ -

four 108 inch speaker wires worked for me .

one wire would work , it'll basically be a dipole with the hot/vertical shortened

A lot of people have converted 102"mobile whips to base antennas. Do a search to get ideas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWyRxdymPqM

One more (or I guess 2 more) things about antennas - can the radials be made of copper and as far as the length of coax to radio goes, can it be more than 100 ft (say 150 or 200 ft) ?

Booty Monster used speaker wire so I will assume it was cooper unless he says different. And unless you want to invest in a amp I would limit my coax length to 100' of RG213U . There is line loss in any field with long runs, but everyone to their own notion. And don't get Cheap on long runs with RG58U.
