I bought a Galaxy DX 959 from Custom CB Radios. This is my first Galaxy radio. I have heard some good things about the 959. Have a Cobra 29 LTD Army Strong and Cobra 29 LX LE with RFX-75 custom built by CB Repairman. Been totally safisfied. At some point in time there became a shortage of RFX-75 units because of demand and new models built around the RFX-75 powerband. Seeking other options Doug in time came up with the 2290 modification. See the RFX-75 may not be ideal on some SSB radios. The 2290 mod is SSB radio friendly. The first radio modified was a Galaxy DX 959. So this prototype was on his bench being put through its paces. I was impressed, made a call and at the end of his second video it was shipped to me. The radio was purchased for $200.00 in return I would put the radio though its paces in a real world environment. Through a period of February 2011-2012 the Galaxy DX 959 was exposed to sub zero temps up to 120 degrees. The roads in Maine are bumpy as heck in some spots so the radio was experienced a lot, and I mean a lot of vibrations! Remember common sense not to operate the radio in extreme temps! Either let the radio's environment warm up or cool down.

Happy to say that I enjoyed many DX contacts. The radio never let me down. With variable power I can set the deak key 1-15 watts and 150 PEP. Normally run it with a 10 watt dead key. So I gave the Galaxy a nickname, "The Beast". This radio has a totally new rf section and large heat sink to reduce heat build up. A lot of good work went into this radio for it to perform for the long haul. So far, 1 year mark and going strong. looking to get some channels put in. When I am in the mobile you can catch me on 28 hitting the airwaves. I've talked to Jesse James Dallas probably or a half dozen times and others!

Very nice. I have the big brother - the 95t2 with 2 2290s. It will do 180 cleanly with a whole lot of audio. Nice to see the single 2290 version.

I run a Magnum S9 in my Lincoln with a Texas Star DX500 with a 102" whip with a Gunny corona ball, 6" riser, and a Gunny puck mount on my trunk lid with a ground wire from one of the puck mount bolts to inside the trunk under the package tray to ground my trunk lid to the rest of my car. The radio swings to @ 40 watts and with the radio dead key turned down to 2 1/2 watts I get about 450 to 500 out of good clear audio. Also, the S9 has the least amount of background noise of all the radios I have owned so far.
