Hey all..im looking to get my battery bank together for my surburban. Im looking to run @15.5. So i have to charge at 17v@. Im trying to find out what others are useing and their experiance..good or bad.
Figure a 4 batt bank is enough..i should have plenty of amperage so i wont need a huge amount of batts.
Im pretty sure i should run a std battery that has a high Amp hour rating. Can a std battery take charging @ 17v without a meltdown? Im having ext. reg Alts. Cranking amps shouldnt mean much if im correct.
I know Kinetic is good ... any others ?

Thanks

either have a 12 volt system or a 16 volt system . charge 2 volts about that , your done now .

never go over 2.5 volts over the resting battery volting . for a 12 volt system , no more than 14.5 volts. you will diminish your battery life real fast if you do that . if you want more watts go get a bigger box . if your not doing keydowns i take the 12 volt system charging at 14 volts all day long and kicking ass to . :300 (127):

marathon are good to .

i been checking out Deka's new spiral gell battery they have , it looks beefy $500 plus but well worth it . has alot of storage power to .

Get the kinetic 14v batts and charge at 16.2. Youll be fine. Of you wanna charge at 17, you need to find 1v traction cells and unless u import them from china, you wont find them in the usa. Even numbers only. What ever you set your bank at, 2.2-2.5 volt over max charge or you will rattle your plates all the time and you will kill the batteries quickly. Trust me, my house runs on em. Once a month you can run an equilization on them and rattle em to knock the deposits off of them.

Or you can just a couple 8's and 6's

the thing is with 6's and 8 's you will run into a resistance issue and will not have enough amp currents .

I was wrong - kinetic only has 12 and 16.. XS has the 14/16's.

Theres also some cheap 14volt batterys for racing but they arent agm so liquid could spill and they could vent

Thanks everyone. I'm going to vent this box. I'm goiPng to look into 14v batts I've used 16v sys on my dragsters. Those xs batts were terrible. They would just die. No warning. Many of the racers running 16v sys had same issue with the16v batt mfgers. Gonna try 14v if I can find them.

Thanks everyone

Looks like im going with the battery below (3)... im going to stick to 12v... Im not going to keydowns with this so i figured why beat on the alts and batts. Being its AGM i shouldnt need to vent the batt box.

3 might not be enough breakaaaaaa . if you have a bucket mouth like me in 20 minutes or less them batteries will get real low . try to get the biggest cold cranking amps or the biggest short circuit burst amps you can get .

My thinking was i have plenty of amperage so i woudnt need so much battery..I thought if your border line or do not have enough alt amps ..then you better have a big batt bank. Am i out to lunch on that thinking?

not at all , your right . good job . but u want enough battery current so it takes less pressure off ya alternators.
