that one either has 1 or 2 tubes . 4cx 250 B one will give ya 200 to 300 bird swinging to 700 . 2 will give ya around 400 to 500 bird swinging to around 1400 watts . a very nice piece or equiptment . RF parts makes and upgrade Bias Board that makes the amplifier run much way cooler to . :very_drunk:

The owner says the super pride came with the larger but similar 8930 by eimac. According to him its why it got the super pride name but to my understanding any pride 300 can be upgraded to a 8930 tube although they are no longer in production.

never heard of the super pride 300 but yes the regular pride 300 can be changed to 8930's

Nice looking tube amp. My Pride is a 4 pill MRF454 doing @ 300-350 watts depending on my battery serving as the power source, which has seen it's better days a long time ago, but my little charger keeps it alive, so far.

Iam new here, I currently own a Pride DX-300 and a Pride DX-1000 , I really do not see to much difference between the two with the exception that the 1000 has a RX amp that don't work.

I am looking for mods to either replace the 4cx250B with perhaps a 4cx350b ? or maybe just add a 2nd 250b?. Thanks

Your best option is probably a second 250 if the plate transformer has enough amperage also there's some other components in there that can hardly support one tube they will need upgrade as well

Hello All: Yeah that's what I was thinking replacing the 4CX250B with a 8930 tube. But the money for a 8930 Tube just isn't worth the little gain you would get. IMO... You need to at least double the output power to justify the mod in my book, or better yet 4 times the power, which is a 6 dB increase in power, or 4 times the original power, or 1 S-Unit per 6 dB.

So I wanted to add a second 4CX250B Tube to the DX-300 Amp, but the transformer doesn't look like it can handle the added load. Looking over the construction and component layout of the DX-300 or 1000 amps, it appears to me that the amp was designer and constructed for the great looks of the front panel. The chassie layout is quit a hack job from the start, not designed or manufactured for Trouble shooting or maintenance. Let along adding more tubes or any other modifications.

So in the near further I have a old Skipper 300 chassie that I will install two or three 4CX250B tubes, using a separate power supply, trying to keep the Skipper 300 to look as stock as possible. The Tram 201D sounds great now with the stock DX300 amp. And I'll probably keep it stock with its user hostile modification design.

The pride amps work well for what they are as far as build quality they were actually built with pride in the USA by handicapped people that's how they got the name sometimes you'll even see the meters printed on the back of something else cold solder joints etc but with a little bit of work their great amp 250b tubes are dirt cheap compared to others that make the amount of power they do if you really want to do something to it strip out the supply add two more tubes and add an external plate transformer and eliminate the diode pack with a real regulator circuit

Hello Doughboy: I am not bad mouthing the pride amps, I have both the 300 and 1000 and think there are great amps, as you said for what they are. But the want to modify is always there, human nature I guess.

Looking at the CB Tricks site:
http://www.cbtricks.com/Amp/pride/dx300/graphics/pride_dx300_mauual.pdf

I am sure you could remove the transformers and fan and move the newer transformers to a separate chassie and add a better squirel cage fan, mounted on the back of the chassie, then allowing for more tubes to be installed, or even say a pair of 3CX800's, oh brother.... But the cost and labor would be extensive, probably easier and cheaper to start from scratch. But still it would be nice to have a stock looking Pride DX-300 put the needle in the corner on the 2500 watt scale.
