So I was bored the other day and I noticed I had a couple of old maco 300 carcasses laying around. I began playing with the transformer in one since that was about all that was left. I found a 12 volt tap so I decide to try and build a small floating power supply with some salvaged parts. I began using the 12 volt tap of the existing power supply. Jumped into a 50 amp full wave bridge rectifier. Put in a big ass 50000 uf 75 volt cap to clean up the ripple. Mounted some binding posts on the front of the old amp and a toggle with the common wire of the household 120 to switch it on. Since this was my first ever power supply build I made some trial and error mistakes but all in all I cant get over how easy this was to build. Not sure on the amperage but Im running a little two pill on it currently with no problems. It floats around 17 volts dc and comes down to about 14.5 under load. Im guessing the transformer should be good for about 35 amps or so. Here is what this ugly thing turned out to look like.

Doesn't need to be pretty if it works!

I've seen worse, I've built worse. That how it starts you know, next you will be building a 32 pill duck smoker.

I think the mad scientist look is where it's at Bro. Nice job. Better than buying a new PS. I'm currently gathering up all the stuff I need to do it. I will post pictures when I'm done.
