first it depends on what you are running them on. and where they are mounted to see if they will even work.

but if you want to be able to talk a few miles your should be ok... if you want to have the best you can have then no.
antennas are the key to any system

You have any suggestions for a good budget antenna? (I know good and budget don't go together but work with me here)

Wilson 5000 mag on the roof

Wilson 5000 mag on the roofI agree. Either a Wilson 1 or 5000 will do MUCH better. Those 2 antennas will out talk a fiberglass any day. You will immediately notice a boost in both receive Nd transmit on either of those. Remember a stock radio on a good antenna can outalk a tuned radio on a crappy one.

My grandpa always said that. Would a Wilson 500 or Lil will do just as good?

they will work, just not as good as the 5000 but id use the 500 over the 2 fiberglass

Hey Caveman I don't know what you are mounting this on, but if you want cheap and better than them fiberglass sticks and you are mounting on a truck you may want to look into a 102 steel whip. that is about as cheap as you can get with performance but I still agress with everyone else the wilson are good antenna's. Also I have did testing on them and a monkey made, fatboy, or something in that range will still out perform a wilson but you will need to drill a hole in roof with them but they are around the same money as the wilson. So in the long run if you don't want to drill a hole in the foof the wilson will be the best route unless you go with the steel whip.

I will probably invest in a Wilson mag mount soon. Their mag mount antenna are more bang for the buck. I've seen alot of reviews for them and they are always good reviews.

go with the everheart antenna's . they tune awsome , and they can handle what ever you dish out to them . I ran an 8 pill through them all day long . :300 (185):

Those look like they might be worth investing in also. Thanks HV!

there cheap in price also. just don't overtighten the shit out of them . keep in mind they use a metal 3/8 24 soft metal thread . not a stainless steel one like on most antenna's . but they will last a long time , no worries.

Invest in a 3 magnet mount. If your going to go that route. Trust me. If you never plan to drill into your roof, the 3 mag mounts let you run rather massive antennas. The Wilson mount is good pretty much only for the Wilson. Not strong enough to hold much else any heavier. And the mounts are reasonable price also

I used to have a 3 magnet mount and modified it to hold a puck and had a massive antenna on it going down the turnpike at 80 miles an hour plus . :loyal:

Sounds like my tri-mag mount setup thats on my 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Using some 1" long 3/4" pvc pipe unions, I raised it up 1' & put a 90° stud on it & topped it off with a Breedlove quick disconnect using a Monkey Made MM9, the best part is the super big 1/4" Monkey Made whip doesn't flex at all at 80+ mph & the tri-mag mount is so strong I have to use a small pry bar wrapped in a rag to prise the magnets up off the roof. Just using it until warm weathet gets here & I can puck the roof and install my dual antenna bounce back setup like one of these Jeeps. Heres a picture of my tri-mag mount. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/30/rubade8e.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/30/jesyhyzu.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/03/30/qenabe8y.jpg

Very nice beavis. I had an old aluminum coil antenna. I borrowed it off my uncle. Not sure what brand it was tho. It looked like a predator single coil antenna and it had an american flag print all the way around the center piece of where the whip went into. (It is a crappy description but oh well lol):caked:

I'm running a single 5.5 foot FireStik FS-5 with no trouble at all. I'm able shoot skip and talk to locals with no problems. You can view some of my pictures and see my setup. BTW.. My SwR's are good with my setup... 1.1 just as low as my dads Wilson 5000.

Good luck.

I forgot to mention that FireStiks FS-5 are top load antennas, and they work great in the location I have my mounted because 1/3 of the antenna is above the roof and the coil is at the top of the antenna. I replaced the white whip with a black one. I let the wife pick the first one... Mistake!!! Get the white one, it matches the truck.. Black looks way better. I sent the white antenna to my dad. He loves it..

I'm a predator guy all the way. I ran a double coil short whip when I used to drive a box truck. Had it on a trimag worked great! Also had a bad to the bone on a 22inch shaft on my caddy and that kicked ass. Ask high voltage, he knows ;) and I plan on puck mounting two of them on the Yukon when it comes home next month. Amazing rec and xmit gains and super easy to tune!

This is the reason why this site is the sheeeeit. Everyone in here has a different flavor. I would have ran a predator, but needed a 30" shaft to get the coil above the roof line of my truck. The top load tune able tip solved that for me. It was easy to tune and has 1.1 SwR's. Those are the 2 reasons why I run the FireStik. They are also rated for 1k, which I'll never max out.

The CB world is like a mixed bowl of ice cream, it's up to you to pick the flavor and enjoy it one spoonful at a time.
