ground your coax , or ground your amplifier to the steel ground .

Keep your grounds as short as possible...Remember these are RF grounds you should use flat braided wire not twisted (Shielding from tv coax is easy to find in bulk and the braid can be striped and used for real good here)...Retesting should be done after each change in your antenna setup...Ensure a good ground of your coax near your mount (test reflected energy) RF bond your doors or the next closest metal body section using flat braided wire (test reflected energy). Continue till a sufficient reading is acceptable...Auto's can be some of the most difficult to get a perfect SWR FWD/REF reading on, just keep working on getting a balance between what your radiating element needs for a RF ground and keep checking your readings in good open space.
