What are you looking for a vertical or horizontal antenna setup? How much money are you wanting to spend? There are a lot of antennas out there and without some more info it's hard to tell you what you want. JJD knows ALOT about antennas , I know he made the coat hanger comment, probably because you haven't given enough info as to what you want to accomplish with your antenna setup. Like I said, let us know what you want and what you are willing to spend and I am sure a good antenna choice can then be made.

I would use an antron 99 or an imax 2000 if your on a budget. If you want a beam get a maco v-quad.

Antron will bleed all over the place and the Imax follows suit. Maco V58 is an excellent choice for a reasonable priced vertical. Rumor has it the Sirio Gaymaster is decent but you can't put much power through it.

I believe the old Penetraor has been resurrected as of late. That would be another great option. Here's a link:

I've seen a 30 year old penetrator survive a NJ Nor'Easter unscathed. Good piece of equipment.

    since you have a 2970 i'll recommend a gainmaster .

    http://cbradiomagazine.com/Antenna%2...%20Review.html

it has a very wide usable bandwidth covering much more of the frequency range your 2970 covers than any CB antenna . if you already have a external tuner try a vector 4000 if you don't get high winds and ice . if you get pretty harsh weather the penetrator already suggested is a great antenna .
