It's a mobile, magnum 257hp and a magnaforce 350hd. I do have a simple dipole setup at around 25ft along with a uniden PC122xl, but I make most of my contacts in the Mobile.

All the above mentioned items will came in way under your $500 mark.
I have had my 2510 with the chipswitch for years and will never part with it.

Definitely agree an HR-2510 is way to go if can find one, if can't would order from United Kingdom the New President Grant 2 and have a brand new radio that is awesome. Some also like those CRE-8900 or the new Yeti-Com Radio's also but I would rather have that new President Grant 2.

Or even a HR2600. I have the HR2510 and you can't beat it on ssb. Rock steady all day long.

2510's the way to go. Had mine for many moons with the sought after original chipswitch that gives you every channel on 10 and 11 meters. Back then I had the clarifier channel so me and friends of mine could escape others by also turning down the mikes or putting on a stock mike.

Look into the Alinco sr8t. They seem to be good radios from all that I have heard and also the ones I have spoken with that are running one. Great ssb radio, 100 watts, and is an HF radio. This is JMO.
