What is the dead key on the radio? And what amp are we talking about, there have been so many mentioned I forgot which one you got, I think it's the messenger right?? Anyway, if you have a way to turn the dead key power up or down on your radio, try that, idk what it is set at now, but i would think 2 watts would do. PM me if needed mate, I will try to help best I can.

And does the rattling noise sound like relay chatter?? I am thinking your dead key may not be set up high enough to key the amp. But do what I have listed. Maybe try another radio that has a like a 3-4 watt dead key.

Does it make noise on AM or SSB? If SSB, if SBB like 222DBFL said raise dead-key may help or may have to raise the ALC for SSB. I had this issue and had to mail back to manufactuer and he did something addition with internal chokes and resolved the SSB problem totally. That is why when buy amp always good to send radio, so tech make all proper adjusts between your specific radio and the amp. Good Luck. I know the waiting can be a ball buster !! I hear ya.

It happens on transmission only and its a chatter all right... one meter says rig is 4.5w another says 6.2w (ish).... I don't know what its doing its all a big expensive guess ... being in the bush makes it impossible to get help.. I can't lower or raise the power on grant, I will stuff it up, I don't know what to look for got told horse shoe but can't see it and would be a total guess that's bound to back fire in my face... so power from rig ?? Not the power source ?

I think 5 watts dead key is too much IMO. You should be able to turn the power down on am on your radio , have you tried keying the amp on ssb with different settings on the delay slider?

And the thing is what or how is the 5 watts in measured is that a pep of 5 watts in or a dead key of 5 watts, big difference. I can't find anything yet for that amp let me keep looking though. If it shut your 60 amp supply down its pulling a lot of amps for 400 watts, what are the transistors? Are they the mrf455??
