I have one of those and have been told by a person who knows me said it sounded "Just like I was standing right next to him." SSB/FM or AM quality audio begins at the microphone, and carries through the radio. A great mike on a POS radio is a lost cause, but it will be better than a stock mic. Studio Quality sound is what you get with the D-104.

If want to go old school for sideband, I would strongly recommend the Shure 526T with red volume knob an excellent AM and SSB mic. Also the Astatic 575M6 or the Astatic Echomax 2000 for a base. The Astatic Eagles tend to have alot of mid's and high's and miss the low end you like to have on SSB. They are great AM mic's though,

PS - Can't beat those D-104 Silver Eagles for AM on pretty much any CB or Export radio. Just have to know how to adjust the mic gain, usually not all the way up, and also need to get the proper adjustment on volume on bottom of D-104 Base Mic or it will overmodulate and sound like shit. Once get it set up right for the radio they are awesome on AM can pick-up a pin needle dropping if crank up volume on mic and can hear everything in house, that was why have to adjust properly and sound awesome. Can't beat for AM, one of the best mic's ever made, the whole line of them from Silver Eagle to Night Eagle, to Gold Eagle and many other different variations. Also make sure the MC-320 cartridge was taken out of mic and a junk one put in.

Good Mic for Ham radio's, sometimes don't match that good with CB or 11/12 meter radio's. Only better is the MC-100 for the kenwood would recommend over the 90 series.

Not sure if Kenwood will be a good match for the New President Grant 2? It is hit and miss have to try out and see if good match. Same would go for the Studio Audio Gear have to try out and can get very expensive very quickly with custom XLR cables and different types of Condenser Mic's. I am experimenting myself with Studio Hookup. The Studio Gear usually works much better with the Ham Radio's, due the Ham radio's have much better bandwidth and can really appreciate the Studio Mic, where as CB's or Export Radio's are limited with Bandwidths, unless you had your radio also modified to receive and transmit with wider bandwidths.
