    bad finals

    Is there anyway to know if its the finals that are bad. Without test equipment.

    If they get HOT with out being keyed they are bad. If you key the amp and you get no output they are most probably bad. If you have certain types of transistors, FET's versus BI-POLAR testing gets a little more complicated. FET's use a different method of testing than bi-polar.

    Look closely at each device and look for signs of heat. Heatsink compound coming out, discolored paste and even a good sniff will reveal some clues.

    Sometimes you can test for internal shorts with a continuity meter.
