    I made a mistake

I made the mistake of transmitting a few times with the antenna plug disconnected from the back of my radio, I plugged it in and it seems to be working fine as I was able to talk with some far away stations. but

Would I have damaged the output? I did it 3 or 4 times before I saw the plug was out, it seems to still work ok. no harm done?

It would depend on how long you were keyed each time. Might have some slight and undetectable damage and the transistors might fail some day.

Is it a case of un solder old transistors and solder new ones back in?

That's about it. You need to be sure you get all of the insulating mica and hardware back into place. But don't fix it until it breaks. You might get five to ten years out of those transistors.
