    Set Up

I just discovered my Grandfathers Golden Eagle Mark IV base station, I have no clue were to start. First off is there a cheap antenna I could rig up just to make sure it is working? Second, does the unit need to be grounded or do I just plug it in and go from there? Thanks for any advice you could give me.

I used to use a #57 pilot lamp as a dummy load. It has a fifty ohm resistance and should handle up to ten watts.
