Need help finding the perfect unit. Front speaker etc.

Hello all. Noob here. I've been running my Midland 1001z for a few years, strapped to the console in my car, but it died, and I want to put something in the dash since I'm replacing the stereo anyway, and the factory double din sized unit leaves the right hole for a stereo and a CB. I've looked around, and nothing I've found exactly fits the bill. The Cobra 18WXSTII has a "front fire" speaker which I love since it's going in the dash, and I don't have many mounting options for an external speaker. But the Cobra doesn't have PA capabilities. I can do without, but I'd like to use the PA to shout at my friends. I also found the Uniden PRO538W, also with a front speaker and PA, but I'm not sure it'll fit. It's a bit long for dash mounting.

Any other options I should look at? Again, the main criteria are: Front speaker, PA, The right size, but I can research any model suggested. I'm just not that familiar with what's out there.

    Thanks!!!!

Look at the uniden 980. It might just fit. You'll need an external speaker, there are a couple smaller speakers that sound okay, the small rectangle ones work. If space is an issue anyway and the 980 has speaker and pa jacks. Hope this helps

The Uniden 880 might be a bit smaller and looks like a great radio.

Yes but it's AM only. No SSB. The 980 isn't much larger if any. Basically same radio one just has SSB. I think that is the case anyway. My 980 is small. If you want a really small radio look at the maxlog 8900. It's about as small as they get.

It is hard to tell how big they are from looking on the web, but I do believe the 880 has ssb too.

Yep the 880 is the am radio and the 980 is am/SSB. Again, if you are looking for a really small radio check out the maxlog 8900. They are Small!!
