    Asuming your using a 1/4 whip as a base ground-plane antenna...keep in mind that ground planes should only be 5% the length of your main radiator. Also, make sure your ground planes are not connected to the main radiator There could be other factors to be considered as well...such as freq. range, meter band, yada yada. To long, your signal does well over very long distance, to short and it only does well over very short distance. Do some homework/research. Good luck. 73's
