    Big Coil Antennas

I want to try my hand at making an open coil mobile antenna like the Monkey Made, Viper and Predator 10K. From the pictures I’ve seen It looks like the Predator and MM have a separate section in the middle of the shaft like maybe it’s center loaded and the Viper looks like just a straight shaft. Are the 10K and MM in fact center loaded?

The center part of a MM or Predator 10K is Delrin, (a type of hard plastic) to shorten the shaft for the coil section...The coil then connects to the bottom shaft, and the top section where your stinger go's... (Viper is also made the same way)

More or less it acts as a "spacer"... Antenna would never tune if it wasn't there and the whole thing was just a long aluminum shaft with a coil attached to it...

I have seen guys build the large open coil antenna's and use PVC pipe instead of Delrin, and it will work, just may-not be as sturdy...

Look's more like something for making whisky, than a antenna!
