    Help

    Hi all,

I’d like to know how to take a connector off an antenna cable as I want to use the antenna on a different radio that doesn’t accept the connector.

    Thanks,
    Will

Taking the connector off is easy... just use cutters. I have put a few links in here showing both solder type and crimp on type connectors going on coax cable. Perhaps this might give you a step in the right direction. If it doesn't cover your need....post back a little additional info as to what you are wanting to do!

This the connector I'm talking about. Is there a way to get it off without damaging it or the cable?

    Thanks,
    Will

Those types are crimp on and are one time use only. When all else fails, get a new PL-259 and solder it to the coax. Just cut that other one off, close to the connector.

Agreed. Crimp on's ... a one time use. You have to essentially "crush" the sleeve over the braid. Not really a way to re-use it.

If I may ask, that is a PL-259 type connector, which is pretty common on CBs as far back as I can remember. What kind of a connector are you needing? Do you have a pic of that?

Thanks for the help, guys. I wanted to use the antenna with a small handheld CB radio, and the port on that radio would not accept the PL-259.

Is the connector on your radio like the one in the picture?

If so.... something like this will let you do it without changing the cable....

    From Amazon:
    https://www.amazon.com/TRUCKSPEC-DAS.../dp/B001JT3J7W

This one here is actually based on an adapter cable...which might be easier to deal with...and it looks to be cheaper at $6.95

    https://www.amazon.com/SO239-Female-...DR83JA2CH2WRMQ

See if you think this might help! This way, you leave the antenna "as-is" and just use that adapter.

If that isn't the right connector.... come on back ....
