the Battery is ok because its a very short run and the radio doesn't pull really any current more than a couple of amps.
in your case you will pulling more amps than 2 or 3 amps.
your radio probably draws around 40 amps max .

if you run into noise or rf issues the shortest ground is the very best . about 3 feet away from the radio to the steel frame . you be alright .

I might have to try putting mine to the frame. I have some engine noise coming in through the power cord and have tried everything I can think of short of a noise suppressor. I have the radio case grounded to the frame as well and that did cut down on it some but it still has a whine in it.

I think I will go back to the frame. Have tried both and there seems to be more "noise" with the ground connected to the battery.

    Thanks for the replies......

you can add some filter caps to ground inside the radio at the power plug but it may not help if the noise is coming through the antenna

Mine isnt coming in through the antenna. I have determined that already it is coming in through the power cord.

what noise are you getting. whine, tick, buzz?

you need a power line filter and or a cap of decent size close to the radio
