    AM Barefoot Surprises

While tending a family yard sale today with my Granddaughter I threw a 4'X4' sheet of galvanized 26 gauge sheet metal on my lawn and placed my Firestik IBA5 indoor antenna on top of it. My granddaughter was surprised when she heard me talking to a guy 2 states away in Indiana on AM no less with the antenna on the ground. That old Cobra 29 NW ST was strutting her stuff. LOL And YES Barefoot

Way back in the early 70's, while stationed in Hawaii, I got a Radio Shack 23 channel unit and an antenna that was no more than a circular trace on a circuit board at the base and a 34 inch stinger on a trunk lip mount. I used to wait for the XYL to get off work on the top level of a parking garage in Ala Moana, just west of Waikiki. The skip would be heavy just around sunset and five watts would stir up nines on the meter if I mentioned the pineapple patch. Fun days when a tiny ground plane and five watts and you broke all the rules.
