    New Sirio Gain Master Setup

I’ve been building antennas for a while now and decided to try a commercial unit. It’s currently about 14 feet off ground to the base, with plans to get it higher. This unit is pre-tuned from factory and the needle on my SWR meter doesn’t even flinch. So far, I can’t tell much difference between this and my homemade 1/4 starduster replica, except for slightly reduced noise level. I’m sure it will really shine once I get it up above my roof peak. Time will tell.

I've had great success with my 5/8 fiberglass omni-directional. I like it a lot. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours.

Imax 2000 works great, last long time until tropical storm winds and tree branches wrap it into a pretzel. Working on my 2nd. Costlier than Gain master due in part to shipping for oversized length. 3 section instead of 4.

I like Sirio antennas. Ive a SD27 dipole, modified to 2 element Yagi, as well as the Imax. I've got an itching for their Blizzard 2700. Their 827 is a big hit in the EU. The Blizzard is a 7th or 8th generation of the 827, with Top Hat and GP Skirt Ring support are the latest additions to the all aluminum 827. Some assembly required. $220 shipped to AL

FistFull - You didn't mention whether your Gain Master was the 5/8 or 1/2 wavelength? I wasn't aware there was a 1/2 wavelength version til now.

It is a 5/8 wave, hard to see from the photo, but there are 4 fiberglass sections. The 1/2 wave uses three sections.

Yep, be aware of the lower power handling. That wasn’t a big concern for me, as I want a set of directional beams if I’m pushing any power.

As mentioned I've a Sirio SD27 arranged as a 2 element Yagi with medium wgt rotor on a 38' push-up mast. Works rather well. 2nd element is Reflector. Rational is focusing on 1/2 the horizon, or a region, as my broadcast area. I don't have to be quite as precise in aiming my shotgun.

The spacing on the SD27 support beam between Driven and Reflector is a bit closer than optimal. I figure ~ 5-6" short. I could have cut and pasted for correct spacing; but I wanted to first try without doing so. I've been operating it in the intended vertical aspect; which works well with home grown Reflector. I've a 3D Printer derived ABS mount for the two 102" SS Whips and 22" Extended Rod for 18.8' reflector. I had unemployed 102" Whips. I bridged 14AWG bare copper wires, 2 pair, from Whip tips to ABS c. Mount center 24" Bridge Pylons; for a 19'L x 2'W diamond in the sky. I chose vertical orientation primarily because the Whips would likely sag presenting too much strain on the 14AWG wire. My first antenna build. Whether it is mechanically sound or not I couldn't say; but, it works.

I'll see what's possible from 38'. I know the Reflector accoutrements are difficult if not impossible to see.

Found Sirio SY27-3 at AMZ and a tad cheaper at Wally World. Sure wish I known of it a while ago. Would have saved me considerable. The SY27-3 would have been considerably cheaper overall and ready to R&R with the right ingredients.

SY27-3 takes the SD27 and adds the necessary beam length and both reflector and director.
