a 27 inch shaft one in your current location will work . you will get a more omni directional tx and rx pattern with it in the middle of the bed rail behind the cab and the long lower shaft will get the coil well above the roof . a 12 or 17 inch shaft in the middle of the roof may do better sometimes and that's the preferred antenna location for most folks . they have a life time warranty too . there are even threads about kale replacing them or their parts including free shipping .

use a good strong mount with any of the external coil antennas .
