    give some tips

I'm working on improving my set up by doing little things throughout the system. If you have some tips, tricks, or advice on things that can help let me know. If you don't want the world to know pm me!

I would start with getting a taller antenna! 6', 7' or the 102" whip..."Your choice of brands", anything taller than what your running now would be a big improvement!

Until you do that, nothing else is going to make much of a difference...

Alright I'll look into that. I'm supposed to be making a deal on a new radio that night have USB, LSB, and am. I just got my 18' RG-58 A/U coax today. If I can get a good deal on the radio next will be a noise canceling mic and then a new antenna. I have been really considering a an old oil coil. I've heard they are good antennas and I know someone who has one. But I will look at the 55r4 as well.

Antenna first. Radios, mics, etc Later. Antenna will keep you busy for a while. Mounting, grounding/bonding, tuning...

Worry about bells & whistles later. Dont waste money on an old Hustler. Go with the 55r4 if you go the coil route. If not, the 102" SS whip will never let you down.

    Google "Fatboy Antenna's"....Last I looked they ran about 80 bucks+ S&H.

Oil can antenna's were a Gimmick antenna at best. You can still find them at most Truck Stops, but there not anybetter than what you have now.

If money's a issue, then the 102" whip would be your best bet...Even if moneys NOT a issue, according to most, the 102" whip is still your best bet!

Jesse is spot on. The 102 is the most obnoxious looking but best performing antenna available. Also happens to be the least expensive.

Alright. If I get the extra money I'm going to get the "comp trucker" by Fatboy. But for now Looks like the 102" is what I want. I thought you need the spring to make the whole thing overall 108"?

You can get the spring, but I would first get just the antenna and see how it tunes without the spring first...Then if SWR seems too high, then get the spring...just depends on the install...Sometimes without the spring you can get a low SWR...Anything under 2.0, and your good to go.
