It aint running off the cig. lighter plug is it? They cant really handle much more than a cobra 19 or uniden pro-510. Had a guy earlier this year hooked a cobra 29 with mosfet conversion to his lighter plug and it burnt the truck. The fuse kept poping so he wrapped it in tin foil. 2010 Toyota made one hell of a bonfire. Insurance refused to cover it so he is screwed.

The uniden 980 and sirio performer or turbo 5000 should be a decent setup for a starter rig. Radio wise the 980 isn't a power house on either am or SSB but it has clean clear audio. I use the Bluetooth mic with mine and it sounds and works very well. If you want to up your radio a bit look at the optima mk3 or rci 2950. The sirio antennas are very good antennas from my experience with them. I use a performer 5000 with a mag mount, optima mk3 for a radio and an icom hm-36 mic, works very well for SSB. If you plan on mostly am use get a cobra 29. If you do plan on SSB the 980 is a good radio to start with, mine was dead on frequency out of the box but power wise will do about 15-18 watts max on SSB, maybe 8-10 watts on am If that. More toward 8 watts from what I have seen. But they have a good receive and good clean clear audio. Good luck with whatever you decide and have fun!! God bless.
