This might be a little pricey and not what you had in mind but I believe you can buy the connectors that will connect to your handheld and can be used on normal coax to run to a normal antenna. Of course you will have to put the connector on the coax unless you can find something of the sort that's already been done.

That' just what I'm looking for! Thanks caveman. I thought about using a firestik NGP attached to the frame of my rucksack, but that would really be a pain in the arse when hiking. I did make up a hanging wire dipole with a bnc connector that stuffs into a small plastic jar, but i really want something that will fit entirely in my pack, and can be taken out and used without significant setup time, and then re-stowed just as quickly. Kind of defeats the point of a handheld if you have to stop and set up an antenna.
